I woke very early and the only sounds I heard were the crashing of the surf and the trill of a Nightjar bird. I lay still for a while just absorbing and revelling in the peace of the moment. Footballers and kids with their dogs usually arrive on the beach at about 6a.m. so peace has become a precious commodity 😊

The Kenya Department of Education has adjusted the system and so all schools both private and government are closed at the same time—early November through early January. Basically, this means that hordes of young people are looking for something to do during this very long holiday. Many of them are spending all day at the beach in front of my house; while others are participating in the Kings Kids activity at the base. This High School Holiday program is running weekdays from 8:30a-3p and I have noticed that quite a number of attendees are Muslim. I find this quite encouraging, as it means lots of Kingdom seeds are being planted and watered as we trust & pray for the Holy Spirit to bring increase that will impact our predominantly Muslim community.

Weather patterns have changed and seasons are not as clear cut as in past years. Here on the coast, the humidity level is rising but we are also having rain at least once a week. Hard on the personal comfort level but very good for flora and fauna. I thank God for electricity, fans and mosi repellent!

I will be teaching in the YWAM Makwang’ani DTS (formerly YWAS Shimba Hills) the last week of November on the topics of Destiny, Calling, Gifts & Stewardship. The material is very familiar but this will be a challenge for 2 reasons. All of these DTS students are local youth who have only been educated to the primary school level and speak very basic, if any English. This means I will have to really simplify my vocabulary and allow equal time for translation; which reduces my 12.5 hours of material to 6 hours—without losing content. No pressure, right 😊?
