The sky is heavily overcast… “socked-in” as we used to say in Seattle. It has been raining since early morning and there are flurries of tropical rain amidst the constant heavy drizzle. My cat Izzy is crouched under a stone bench out in the yard trying to keep dry but stubbornly refusing to come inside; while the 2 dogs, Nutmeg & Ginger, are sleeping warm and dry on their lanai beds.
Riding pillion on a pikipiki (motorcycle); which is my usual mode of transportation, is just not an option in weather like we are having today so I am staying home. And surprise, surprise the power hasn’t gone off yet so I am taking the opportunity to catch up on my correspondence.
I have to stop periodically in the writing of this letter to mop floors in several of the north & west facing rooms of the house because when it rains heavily the wooden window louvers leak and the floors flood. Fred and I have tried various remedies for this problem but all have been unsuccessful. I confess, it is possible to be irritated by this but then God reminds me to be thankful…for the Nakumatt store where I was able to buy a nice modern mop with sponge/roller head lever that makes the task so much easier…for the fact that I am not living on the streets without even a roof or walls to keep me safe and dry... There are always many things to be thankful for aren’t there?
