23 August 2017

I confess, I totally missed the whole solar eclipse hype and event.  Maybe I will check it out on out You Tube at some point.

I heard a bit about the “hollow earth” theory years ago…but not details about reaching it by caverns and the poles. My brother told me about the Universalist theory it's a new one to me—words fail me!

My foot is fully healed, energy level is back to normal (and unfortunately my appetite also), and I am beginning to focus on work again.

The national elections took place on Tuesday the 8th of this month and many people, especially here on the coast, were expecting a repeat of the pre-election and post-election violence we experienced in past years.  The week before the election, in anticipation of looting, many of the shops both here in Likoni and in town cleared all their stock off of the shelves and closed their doors for business, and remained closed for a whole week following the election.   Also, many people who come from up country travelled back to their home place for the two-week period.

Those of us who were sticking it out here in Mombasa and Likoni, prepared by stocking up on food & water supplies, airtime, candles, cooking gas etc. so that we would not have to venture out should there be problems.   However, although there has been quite a bit of grumbling about rigged polls by the losing party, we are so thankful to report that there was no violence here on the Coast and really very limited and isolated instances throughout other parts of the country.

This last Friday was our Discipleship Training School graduation, which always begins with a special meal at lunch time.  I went to the base at 9a.m to help with the meal preparation but when I arrived it was already finished so I helped Rianne (Julius’s wife) and Janelle (Erick’s wife) do the decorating of the new Hall.  I also spent a pre-meal hour playing with Jelani (Erick’s 6-year-old son).  He really wore me out!!

Next month is the YWAM Kenya National Staff Conference and it is being held here at Mombasa base.   I will not be as involved in the preparation as I was back in 2009 but I will be supporting behind the scenes with the hospitality team.
