I had planned to stop off in Nairobi on my way to the States next month and go visit Freda but on Saturday last week I received a phone call informing me that Freda had died in her sleep. I received the news with mixed feelings and am still processing those feelings—sadness at the loss of a mother figure, relief that I do not have to find a way to get to Nairobi to visit her in future and a sort of emptiness at another loss of responsibility. I did e-mail her son David in U.K. to offer my condolences.
This was my week to teach in our Mombasa DTS on Destiny, Calling, Gifts and Stewardship. The rains have started and it rained hard every morning this week, so getting to the base by pikipiki every morning on time and in a relatively dry condition was a challenge. Of course, being a recovering perfectionist, I always would like to have done a better job. My dream, is to know the material so well that I do not have to look at my notes but can just talk--Dean Sherman and Leo Kiwanuka are my role models for this 😊.
Anyway, putting that aside, the students all gave positive feedback about my teaching style, the material I was presenting and the fact that I use a lot of scripture and have the students read the scripture portions. I will continue to pray for inspiration to develop more DTS teaching topics and invitations to share them. Once a year just doesn’t seem enough 😊
