Went back to ODC to check laptop repair status. They have located a replacement fan but the bad news is that the hard drive has been fried by someone using the laptop when the fan was not working. I guess they thought that “turn off immediately” flag was just a suggestion ☹   Oh well, it was an old computer, lasting more than 4 years here in the tropics.   I ordered a new HP laptop. For about $330.
