Prayer Focus June 2011

Dear Prayer Partners,

In any or all your prayers for me and the base;  if God gives you an insight, a scripture, a Rhema word of any kind, a word of encouragement etc.  please do share them with me.  You  have NO idea how much I need such input and connection with you!

At 6:30  Saturday morning  there was a pickup truck with loud speakers going up and down the main road in front of my house making an announcement about a crusade being put on by the Ushindi Baptist Church--and so the weekend began.   Being the first Saturday of the month, the missionary prayer-and-potluck-fellowship meeting was on my schedule and being held just ½ km down the road at Amani Acre (a guest house run by Africa Inland Mission).  I took scalloped potatoes with hotdog coins.  As usual the pan was scraped clean…Thanks Mom, for teaching me to cook J.

PRAISE GOD and THANKS to all of you who were praying for my bus trip to Rwanda...we absolutely cannot take Kenya road travel safety for granted!  The long rides(36 hours one way) were also a physical challenge for me but I was not as exhausted as I had expected to be, remembering my 16 hour ride to Eldoret 3 years ago.   I have attached the journal I kept of the trip, in case you are a detail person J

Can you believe that it is June already?!  The rest of this month we could be busy.  The Lord has led us to begin partnering with 3 small local churches  in Timbwani (our Jerusalem).  There are several strongholds over this geographical area that years of  evangelist crusades have failed to break—alcoholism, witchcraft, immorality, drug abuse, poverty—to name a few.   We need a spiritual breakthrough in our community!  The Base Leadership Team has already met with the pastors to discuss what they see as the needs of their church members and the community.  They all said that most of their people need teaching on foundational topics and some sort of income generating.   To begin this partnership, the YWAM Mombasa family—all 16 of us, will be visiting these churches and participating in their Sunday services during this month.  At each church we have been invited to present a skit and preach the Word—do whatever we want actually.  The question is, what does God want to communicate to each group through us?

We would appreciate your prayers for us as we begin this  faith & relationship venture:

12th June —Timbwani Baptist Church, Pastor Ombeva;  19th  June--Africa Inland Church, Pastor John Alusa;  26th June  __ Jesus Mission Centre, Pastor Bigvae Mzae.

In April Jeremy Kirimi and Masai Kahindi  attended an ALPHA Kenya  conference in Nairobi.  At that meeting Masai was given an opportunity to share how the Holy Spirit is using the Alpha course to bring change in Shimo la Tewa prison here in Mombasa.  At the end of the conference Masai was asked to take on the task of getting Alpha into every prison in Kenya.   We are still praying with him about this open door and as we do that, yesterday he flew to U.K. to attend an Alpha International conference and meet with leaders to find out exactly what would be involved in such a commitment.  Please pray for Masai especially during this week as he is still on treatment for Typhoid.

He returns next Sunday and then on Tuesday and Wednesday he and I will be visiting various government offices to begin the process of applying for new leases on our 2 plots.  As I have explained before, the current leases expire on 1 January 2013 and if we do not have a new lease the government will reclaim our plots and all the buildings.  Since we do not have 300’000Ksh ($4000) to pay a lawyer to do this we going to follow the example of Martha Pontier from Amani Acre and do it ourselves.  In this culture everything is about relationship, so Martha will go with us and introduce us to the government people that helped her with her lease applications.   We have been told that the process takes quite a long time but as long as we have the application in process we are “safe”.  Please pray that God will give us favor and divine appointments with the government officials.   At this point we have no idea how much the actual lease will cost so until I get more detail, I am praying for God to supply $10’000.   The architect who designed our new campus advised us to amalgamate the plots before applying for the new lease but since that also is a long process and would cost about 100’00Ksh in legal fees, which we do not have, we are not planning to take that step.  Please pray for wisdom to know how to proceed and financial provision also.
