My house is in desperate need of painting but I have not yet located a fundi to do the job.   The guy who did painting at the base 3 years ago did a good job but unfortunately, I was not the one who hired him and I did not get his name or phone number.  The houses around me are owned by wealthy Muhind’is (India) or Europeans who hire exclusive fundi’s to do contract work.  Way above my price range.

Also, I was waiting to have the painting done until the carpenter repaired the windows.  16 of the windows in the house need work.  Some are termite eaten, some need rotted frames replaced and some of the louver slates are warped so that they do not close completely—so when it rains, the floors flood.    I got the name of a contractor 18 months ago and he came and gave me an estimate to have all of that done but he always has an excuse or “reason” why he can’t start the work “right now.”   And of course, all the problems have gotten worse with the long wait.

On the 8th, I was hit with a weird respiratory infection kind of like bronchitis (but not) and that knocked me out for about 2 weeks.  The up side was that I lost over 8 pounds 😊.   I am getting my strength and energy back now just in time for the hot and humid (90 w/ 65% humidity at 10am) pre-monsoon weather.   Spiritually, I think I am doing better.  Have had some sweet times with the Lord recently.

Two weeks ago, a young man (well, in his late 30’s) that was at Shimba the same time I was, was killed in a traffic accident not far from here. He was driving a tuktuk (watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel to understand tuktuk) and was stopped by the 2 police.  They confiscated the tuktuk, putting Julius in the back and were driving it to the police station when they were hit by a matatu (14 passenger van) and all 3 of them were killed.  Julius leaves behind a wife and several young children.  We just never know the day or the hour, do we?
