YIKES!!!   Emma, the 2-year-old Pomeranian/Japanese Spitz mix that I adopted last month has become very attached to me and sleeps in a chair at the foot of my bed.  Late last night, (early this morning actually) I went upstairs to bed and found Emma in her chair as usual, but in the chair with her were 4 new born puppies.  I had NO idea that she was expecting!!    This is her first litter (and her last!!) so, instinct aside, she is on a new mother learning curve.  Several times I have found Emma sleeping on her back with her feet in the air and all 4 pups under her back.  I feel compelled to check on her frequently 24/7 (many extra trips up/down the 14-step staircase during the day).  Good exercise
