28 October 2015

We are in week 4 (of 6) of the LDC (Leadership Development Course).  There were several last-minute cancellations of accepted delegates; which basically meant that we did not have to rent outside housing; and that saved us a LOT of money.   At the same time, it filled the on-base housing to capacity and the cancellations opened the door for 2 more of our own staff to attend the school.   All of those involved, both staff and delegates, report that they love the accommodation and atmosphere of the base and are SO glad they have come… and are learning a lot.

I am not as involved with the LDC school as I had expected and hoped to be.  Being sick for those first critical 3 weeks has put me far behind with both base and LDC finances/accounting and catching up has meant that I cannot sit in on the class sessions…which in turn means I have not really bonded with the class. Disappointing but unavoidable.

In addition, of our 4-member Base Leadership Team, Erick & Fridah are both involved with the LDC—Erick as a delegate and Fridah as staff.  Karen is back in Kenya after her 5-month furlough but is having health issues so is not yet really back with us.  This has put me in the position of representing the BLT for a number of base issues that need to be sorted …and/or delegated to the few remaining non-LDC staff.

Health-wise I am almost back to “normal” physically but emotionally and spiritually am in a very dry place—part of me not wanting to get back in the saddle again.  Maybe I am just being lazy.  The LDC leaders and YWAM Africa member-care leaders are working with Karen, Fridah, Erick & me to assist and counsel us in the transition of turning the base leadership over to the younger generation; which is currently Fridah & Erick.  A much trickier thing in a non-western cultural setting.
